Help Prevent Wrinkles - A Breakthrough

Kathleen P. Walsh - January 2009

What steps can you take to help prevent wrinkles? Most sources suggest that the most important thing you can do to prevent face wrinkles or those on other parts of the body is to avoid overexposure to the sun. That may be “partially” true.

It isn’t the sun, per se, that causes a wrinkle to form, it is UV rays penetrating the skin’s layers and exciting free radical molecules. Even that wouldn’t be a problem if enough antioxidants were present to neutralize the radicals. So, one of the best ways to help prevent wrinkles is to use an antioxidant rich cream.

That sound simple enough, but the molecules of the antioxidants in our daily multi-vitamins are too large to penetrate the skin’s epidermis. That’s the outer layer. Collagen fibers, which are responsible for the skin’s strength and elasticity, are in the dermis layer, that’s about five layers deep. Those fibers are damaged by free radical molecules, too and that is the layer where some of the most deadly forms of skin cancer occur.

So, in order to prevent face wrinkles and help protect against skin cancer, we need creams that contain antioxidants that are small enough to penetrate through seven layers of skin. The only compound that is proven to do that is called NANOLIPOBELLE HE Q10. It contains a combination of the antioxidants coenzyme Q10 and natural vitamin E.

Many experts recommend that the best way to prevent face wrinkles is to be sure that the makeup or moisturizer that you use contains sunscreen. There is a huge controversy surrounding this recommendation. Some of the sun-screening compounds penetrate the skin’s layers and CAUSE free radical damage. Oxybenzone, benzophenone and avobenzone are examples of sunscreens that cause damage to the cells DNA that can CAUSE the formation of a cancer cell. They don’t even do a really good job of scattering UV radiation, so they don’t help prevent wrinkles or skin cancer.

Zinc oxide is the only sun-screening compound that has a proven record for safety and effectiveness. There is a relatively new line of makeup that contains it, but you won’t find it in moisturizers, because it does not disappear.

Using an effective moisturizer is an important step to help prevent face wrinkles. Cleansers remove dirt and oil. That oil protects the skin from damage. People with oilier complexions develop wrinkles later on in life. You don’t want something that feels greasy, but you do want something that replenishes the oils washed away by cleansers.

The best moisturizers contain plant-based oils and protein extracted from sheep’s wool. These ingredients are readily absorbed by the skin’s layers and they help prevent wrinkles. The protein stimulates the production of new cells and increases firmness. The plant based oils are very similar to those secreted by the human body.

Mineral oil and petrolatum will not help prevent face wrinkles. Yet, they are some of the most common ingredients in creams and lotions. To help prevent wrinkles, you need something more than the average moisturizer contains. Now, you know how to find it.
